About this website

The Hugo Sinzheimer Repository is a product of the private 'Foundation HSI' ('Stichting ter ondersteuning van het Hugo Sinzheimer Instituut'), set up in 1997 to support the work of the (former) Hugo Sinzheimer Institute (HSI), based at the Law Faculty of the University of Amsterdam. The HSI was founded in 1993 as an interdisciplinary research institute of ‘labour and law’. Its name pays homage to Hugo Sinzheimer as a founding father of labour law. He has always stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research and has become, after his escape in 1933 from persecution in Germany, the Netherlands’ first Professor of Sociology of Law, at the University of Amsterdam.

The research of HSI is now being continued in the new institutional form of AIAS/HSI, at the Law Faculty of the University of Amsterdam. Meanwhile in 2010 a second Hugo Sinzheimer Institute has been founded in Frankfurt, nowadays as a part of the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung.
